Why Pay for Christian Education?
Taxes? That’s what you thought right off – my taxes are already paying for public school. And for many people, that’s enough of an answer right there for where their child should go. But for some reason, you paid $3,800 this year to send your child to Cornerstone. Was that a good investment?
Public schools offer so many wonderful things there are just no reasons to run them down. But for some people there are reasons to seek out another option. Some children thrive in smaller environments. Cornerstone offers smaller class sizes with, at most, a 12-1 teacher ratio. These days many children struggle with how to handle distractions and public schools by design have larger classes, more activities going on at one time, more electronics, and more general noise. When I give a tour at Cornerstone and all the class doors are closed, I find myself saying, “There really are children here.” The classes are well organized and there’s an almost peaceful learning environment. That’s what a small school can give you.
But there’s something bigger going on at Cornerstone Christian. And it truly makes us what we are. Our commitment to Christian education. What that means is that we provide a curriculum that constantly points your child to the truth of who Jesus is and we teach from a perspective that He is part of everything in life. Our school motto is “Training Minds, Shaping Hearts, and Nurturing Souls.” At CCS we train minds to know about the Bible and how its teachings effect every academic subject. Because the kids gain that knowledge and understanding, their hearts will be shaped to appreciate God’s work in their everyday lives. And, because our teachers have the ability to share the love of Christ through the school year in the way they live and teach, they are able to then nurture the children in their care.
You are the parent. It is your responsibility to bring them up in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord” as the Bible tells us in Ephesians 6. And Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us about the precepts of Scripture, “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
What a blessing it is to have a school to help in this. It is not a mandate that we send our children to Christian school. There are other options out there. But Cornerstone Christian for these reasons and more is able to fill a need in Kershaw County. You made a great choice this year. We ask you to pray with us that the Lord would continue to bless this school.
